Monte Rosso, translation “Red Earth” is a legendary site known for its deep red volcanic soils. Perched 1300’ above the valley floor, approximately 250 acres of vines with some blocks dating back as far as the late 1800s. While most of the wines off this vineyard are traditionally produced from zinfandel and cabernet sauvignon, we were blessed with a few tons of sangiovese. A perfect grape to show off the sites signature high acid.

The wine spent a few days soaking before fermentation started. The wine was then transferred to 600L neutral stockinger puncheons for a 20 month aging. In an effort to keep varietal character intact, the wine  remained in barrel on its lees until bottling.
